UZBEKISTAN

I have worked and travelled in Uzbekistan since 2018, taking on various projects relating to culture, journalism, business and media.

These projects include:

  • For Uzbekistan’s Art and Culture Development Foundation, editing the brochure for an exhibition dedicated to the Uzbek scholar and thinker Abu Rayhon Beruni, titled ‘Geographical and Intellectual Journeys’, which was held in Paris in 2023.
  • Exhibiting one of my photographs of Tashkent’s Hazrati Imam religious complex at a photography exhibitionDaily Lives in Central Asia’, organised in 2020 by the European Union’s SEnECA project. The exhibition was held at the BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, Belgium.
  • Covering Uzbekistan’s current affairs as senior editor of The Times of Central Asia.
  • Spending three years (2016-2018) as the Uzbekistan (and all of Central Asia) market analyst at the alcohol industry research firm IWSR. During this time I visited Uzbekistan to meet with alcohol companies, and write reports on wine & spirits trends.
  • An interview with Visit Uzbekistan magazine about the story of Uzbek wine.
  • Writing articles on a variety of topics in Uzbekistan, from first impressions of Tashkent to the country’s emerging cricket team.

There is a collection of my best photographs from journeys in Uzbekistan — and other countries — on my photography store, Life in Central Asia.
